Exercise and Sport Sciences

Exercise and Sport Sciences

At UQ, you'll be part of one of Australia's leading Exercise and Sport Sciences programs.

You will gain over 400 hours of practical training within high-quality external industry placements and on-campus, specialised exercise clinics.

You will start to gain practical experience from your first year alongside experienced mentors in our modern, well-equipped human performance laboratories.

As a UQ exercise and sport sciences student, you may direct your studies towards a specific specialisation for careers in elite athlete development, sports conditioning and performance, clinical measurements or corporate and community health and fitness. You will graduate with a highly respected ‘Honours’ qualification, also opening up opportunities for careers in research.

As a exercise and sport sciences graduate you will be eligible for membership of the professional organisation, Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) and an Accredited Sport Scientist (AspS)*. This is the only Bachelors degree in Australia to meet Sport Science accreditation requirements by ESSA.

*Graduates who have completed elective course ‘Developing the Elite Athlete’ and practicum under an appropriate supervisor.

"As a Sport Scientist in Physiology for the Queensland Academy of Sports, I work with athletes to improve their performance at competitions including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. As elite sport is always progressing, I also research new training methods and technology and have the opportunity to travel internationally with teams."
